In Sketch 201, students will build off the comedy writing fundamentals they learned in Sketch 101 to broaden their understanding and mastery of comedy writing. Using the principles of heightened comic action while exploring relationship/character development their writing repertoire will expand by writing more types of sketches and beginning to learn about running order structure. Students will write individually and collaboratively – offering punch up ideas for each other’s ideas, pitching and riffing in a writer’s room setting, and co-writing material.
Deliverables after Sketch 201
- Parody, Group Premise, Character, and Satire Sketches
- Desk piece (Last Week Tonight, Colbert, Daily Show)
- Fake Article (The Onion, Reductress, Clickhole)
- Three blackouts (short one joke sketch)
