INDIVIDUAL PLAYER auditions

No Ensemble? No Problem.

We’re excited to introduce a brand new way to join our Resident Team program!

In addition to our traditional Resident Team auditions, we’re now offering Individual Resident Team Auditions. This is an opportunity for experienced improvisers to audition on their own and be placed on a newly formed Resident Team.

Individual Resident Teams are a great way to join the Westside Resident Team program—even if you don’t already have an ensemble.

If selected, you’ll be placed on a newly formed team of 6–8 improvisers. Together, you’ll rehearse weekly, work with a coach of your choosing, and perform every three weeks for an 18-week Resident Team term

At the end of the term, you’re welcome to audition again as an established ensemble, or come back and audition individually again if you’d like!

Audition Date: Sunday, August 2nd 10am-4pm

Submission Deadline: July 31st, EOD

Performance Dates: 8/24, 9/14, 10/5, 10/26, 11/16, 12/7 (Mondays 9pm)

*To be eligible to audition, you must have completed Improv 401 at Westside Comedy Theater (or equivalent training at another theater) and be able to commit to weekly rehearsals and all of the performance dates.

Please note: Our goal is to provide stage time and performance opportunities to as many improvisers as possible. If you are auditioning with a team that is selected for the upcoming Resident Team term, you will not be eligible to participate in the Individual Auditions. However, if your team isn’t selected, we encourage you to sign up and can’t wait to see you there!

how does it work?

Performers will be scheduled into one-hour audition blocks based on their availability and will audition together in groups of 5-10 people.  The actual audition will last around 30-45 minutes and we will email you your scheduled audition time the day before auditions.

This is an audition for a long-form improv team, and will focus on showcasing your ability to collaborate, support your scene partners, and perform. You can expect to be led through a series of improv exercises, group work, edits, and scenes.

Selected performers will be placed on a team of 6–8 improvisers that will perform together during the upcoming Resident Team term. Once formed, each team will take ownership of their own team operations, including organizing weekly rehearsals and selecting a coach of their choosing. We’ll provide a list of recommended coaches to help you get started.

What are we looking for?

  • Listening & Adaptability
  • Confidence on Stage
  • Strong Scene & Group Work
  • Commitment to Rehearsing
